Situated on a hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Grattamacco is in an ideal location to produce some of the finest wines in Italy. Second to Sassicaia only in historical chronology of the Bolgheri territory, the estate of Grattamacco planted its first roots in the Bolgheri in 1977 and produced its first wine in 1982. Twenty five hectares of organically farmed vineyards with three distinct soil types at 100 meters above sea level, separating them from the rest of the Bolgheri both stylistically and geographically.
Claudio Tipa, also owner of the famed Poggio di Sotto estate in Montalcino and Castello di ColleMassari in Montecucco, together with the enologist Luca Marrone, and wine consultant Maurizio Castelli is producing in Grattamacco wines of great distinction that continue to showcase and celebrate all that the Bolgheri embodies.
