For nearly 20 years, our team has applied their dedication, skill, and talent to creating wines that reflect the personality and soul of our vineyard. We individually farm 20 micro-blocks within our 16-acre estate to optimize the uniqueness of our diverse soils and numerous clonal selections. The resulting wines exhibit immense complexity year after year, with each vintage bringing forth its own distinctive nuances.
WE BELIEVE THAT GREAT WINES ARE CREATED IN THE VINEYARD
Meticulous farming and a natural approach to winemaking cultivate the truest expression of our vineyard and create wines that express the nuances of each block. Our 16-acre estate vineyard is situated on a gentle, west-facing slope in the Yountville Appellation. The vineyard consists of gravelly alluvial soil layered over sandstone bedrock, avoiding the vigor of deep, rich soil. This well drained site produces tiny, thick-skinned berries and wines with distinctive characteristics of deep black fruit flavors, earthy minerality, structure and powerful tannins.
THE VINEYARD IS DIVIDED INTO MICRO-BLOCKS OF THIRTEEN CLONES OF CABERNET SAUVIGNON, TWO CLONES OF MERLOT, AND TWO CLONES EACH OF CABERNET FRANC AND PETIT VERDOT. THE VINES ARE DENSELY PLANTED TO A VARIETY OF ROOTSTOCKS CAREFULLY MATCHED TO THE SOIL; EACH CLONAL BLOCK IS FARMED SEPARATELY. THE BLOCKS ARE FERMENTED INDIVIDUALLY, YIELDING A DIVERSE PALETTE OF AROMAS AND FLAVORS WITH WHICH TO BUILD OUR GEMSTONE WINES.
